ABF Title defense has spectators at the edge of their seats
On the Wednesday 7 September, former WBA interim superfly weight champion Sirichai Thaiyen defended his ABF superflyweight championship belt against Wittawas Basapean who goes by the name Samartlek. This fight was actually a rematch. The first fight took place in March earlier this year with Sirichai Thaiyen winning their first encounter and at the same time capturing the ABF championship. The fight took place at the Muaklek Technical College, Muak Lek in Saraburi.
This is actually the home town of Sirichai Thaiyen. This was a very interesting match up as both men have come close to winning world titles with both having challanged for world titles before. Wittawas Basapean has challenged for the WBO,IBF and even fought Naoya Inoue for the WBC world light flyweight title. He fell short 3 times in each encounter. Sirichai Thaiyen captured the WBA Interim world light flyweight title but lost to Juan Carlos Reveco and Artem Dalakian when he challenged for the world title.
The fight was an action packed bout with both fighters standing in the pocket and trading with Sirichai Thaiyen getting the better of each exchange. The two veterans used their ring experience giving fight fans an entertaining fight. In the end it was Sirichai Thaiyen who cruised through a unanimous decision victory. Sirichai Thaiyen is now ranked 3rd by the WBA in the light flyweight division. He might be setting himself upfor a world title fight in the future.
